Complaint #: 41
Unhelpful, rip-off, rude service
Took a Gold Line taxi from Airport to Otahuhu, driver deliberately went the long way and missed many exits even though he was told beforehand where to go. In a short distance the price was hiked up by $15. When I left the taxi, I forgot my wallet, I called the taxi company and gave as much information as possible, the lady told me to call back in 24 hours and they'll ask all the cab drivers. I asked her if they would be able to track the driver as he had entered the destination into his GPS, she said they would be able to. The next day I called back and the man that answered told me they can't do anything about it if the taxi driver's number was not known. When my partner called back to try and reason with him to find out more information, he accused me of not actually losing my wallet, saying how did I pay for the taxi etc, making up a lot of excuses to deflect the blame. He was extremely rude and unhelpful, as was the driver himself. He took no measures to help me and I will never use their service again, I hope others don't make the same mistake I did.

I've also had bad experiences with catching taxis from Auckland airport as far as getting ripped off is concerned. I live in Favona with is very close to the airport but drivers have taken longer routes and I end up paying $10 more for the trip. If us locals get this sorts of treatments...I wonder how many tourists get ripped off big time!

I did an online booking with Cheapcabs and the fixed fare was $10.00 and the total distance was 4.23km.So that i can go to the airport from Mangere on the 15/8/14.Not that far.Problem with Cheapcabs was that they were 45mins late from the time i booked for online and called them as to where my taxi at and was getting the run around like she stuck in traffic n she 5-10mins away asked him where she coming from he said Penrose.I know Penrose is not that far from Mangere .Talking to the lady cab driver lets just say that the other cabbies close didnt want to come and pick me up cos of the $10 price. She came from Takapuna i felt sorry for her.Now my complaint is with Auckland gold line taxi i arrived back to nz today 17/8/14 its 5.45am with my sister and choose A.G.L.Taxi bad choice once we gave our address the taxi driver asked us as to what streets that come off.Now shouldnt they be knowledgeable off all the streets just like the bus drivers. And he almost went pass the turn off to the street until my sister told him turn in here.i didnt get the name or number of the taxi driver.Stopped at our address and i go how much cos it cost me $10 to the airport and it should be similar.HELL NO!!He said $32.20 WHAT!!!..and i started debating him thats a rip off im not paying that n i go why did it cost me $10 to the airport and its the same distance back and it costing me 3 times more.He went to say that theres a $7 airport toll i dont care about the airport toll and the rest is the fare.HELL NO AGAIN i was angry he must of thought i was stupid or a tourist and would pay it.i told him i should of chosen the taxi and he went to say that theyre the same.RIP OFF

Gold line taxis - not impressed at all
'All taxi and shuttle companies are able to drop you off at the airport, however only licensed companies are able to pick you up from the designated taxi ranks at the terminal buildings.' - from the Auckland Airport website.

It does not appear that Goldline Taxis is licensed to pick people from the airport. It was obvious that they were waiting for business outside. There was no one being dropped off. The taxi was parked and the driver was standing outside it - he acknowledged me as I approached and opened the car door for me.

At the end of the journey I was apalled that the taxi driver charged me $10 extra for using my eftpos card. I will never use Goldline Taxis again. I have also complained to Auckland Airport.
