Highly deceiving method used on my elderly mother 
One of My Tax Back sales agents approached my mother in Mangere mall on a busy Saturday morning. The person did not disclose who he was representing but simply told my mother that she could be entitled for a tax refund. Then told her that she needed to sign a form and then someone from his office will ring to tell her how much she could get back.
She was not given a copy of the form she signed. Nor was she explained that the sales person was an agent and a fee will be deducted from her tax refund as commission. And she was also not told about her signing of the form automatically made my tax back her agent for all future tax refunds.
Few weeks later she gets her refund with $350 deducted as commission (almost 30% of refund amount). Even at this stage the information supplied with her refund checks had no indication that a commission was deducted. Very deceiving operation by this company.
I was planning on doing her refund directly via IRD's website. It's simple and free and we've always done it every few years. But My Tax Back wanted a stake of my mother's earning with almost no work from their part.
My mother is in her sixties with very limited understanding of reading formal documents. She works on minimum wage as a caregiver. The $350 that was robbed off her is almost her whole weeks wages. That's 40 hours she basically worked for nothing. Good job My Tax Back.
Even after contacting My Tax Back, they refused to refund the fee or acknowledge the fact that they did anything deceiving.
Then I found out that we were not the only ones cheated by this out fit. Here's a Herald article on this where the Commerce Commission is warning people about MyTaxRefund.co.nz and MyTaxBack.co.nz

I suggest you don't deal with this company. And if you've already dealt with them, ring and tell them that you don't want them to represent you as their tax agent in future (by signing their first refund form, you automatically make them your agent for all future refunds - it's in the fine print).

I am having the same problem with them, not sure what to do.
I called them up and cancelled the service. but they told me assessment is done and i have to pay them money or they will send it to collection company.
How do i resolve the issue i am not sure help would be appreciated.
