On The Go Christchurch City
Complaint #: 196
Rejection of WOF test to create work for said business.
I went in for a WOF test on the 25/7/2017 at a motor mechanics business called On the Go which is situated in Linwood Avenue, right next to Eastgate Mall, in Linwood Christchurch.
The WOF failed its test with three reasons being:
1. Wipers torn and streaking.
2. Headlights need adjusting
3. Handbrake isin't holding.
I think that these 3 reasons have been falsely identified and my reasons for this are as follows:
A. The previous day I had been driving in strong rain and the wipers were working perfectly with no streaking or visible tearing.
B. Why would my headlights suddenly move out of alignment, having not had an accident or knock.
C. I tested the handbrake and it held firmly.
The one wiper blade had been cut through and when I went to get a replacement I told the motor spares company of my suspicions that On the Go had manufactured the 3 reasons for the failure of the WOF. I was told in no uncertain terms that On the Go was well know for doing this type of thing which is illegal.
I did not trust the company and decided to have the car fully re-warranted at a VTNZ licensing station.
THE CAR PASSED ITS WOF WITH FLYING COLOURS. I even queried the original faults numbered 2 and 3 above with the VTNZ inspector, and absolutely no negative query existed regarding the two points in 2 and 3 above. (remember I "fixed" the torn wiper blade - point 1 above)
SUMMARY: Due to the fact that re-checks HAVE to be done at the place where the original WOF was carried out, leads me to believe that On the Go are delibrately failing certain aspects of the WOF checklist in order to get business aligned to the fixing or repairs of the parts that "failed" the original warrant.
Unfortunately I have no proof of this claim and believe that they manufacture faults which are extremely difficult to prove, like the 3 listed above.

I think this is a very common trick to source business out of unsuspecting car owners. They wanted to extract another $100 - $200 out of you for doing practically no extra work. I've been through a similar situation.
You should report them to the WOF regulatory board. Send through your WOF check sheet from both checks as evidence.

I would like to issue a couple of facts to this complaint above as it has come through to ON THE GO Riccarton we are in no way affiliated with the Linwood branch as we are independently owned and operated
we understand your frustrations with this and we have for some reason received a number of the complaints for the Linwood Branch I do Suggest if you have a strong will you can contact the NZTA with your concerns and lodge it through there
ON THE GO RICCARTON will be rebranding shortly to save everyone from the confusion and will still provide the above par service that you should all come to know and expect
We do hope to serve you well in the future
thanking you

In response to the comment by GIG AUTOMOTIVE (a.k.a. On the Go Riccarton), I would just like to say that the misdemeanour as carried out as in my original complaint above, was NOT done by GIG AUTOMOTIVE (a.k.a. On the Go Riccarton).
The company responsible for the action that caused me to file a complaint was described in my actual complaint -
see line 1 of my complaint "I went in for a WOF test on the 25/7/2017 at a motor mechanics business called On the Go which is situated in Linwood Avenue, right next to Eastgate Mall, in Linwood Christchurch.
My apologies to GIG AUTOMOTIVE for the perceived confusion, however people should read the complaint carefully before making false accusations to the wrong business.

Wipers should really be replaced each year. Especially if the car is outside in the sun or if they are activated in frost.
Headlights need aligned due to sagging of the bulb filament
Handbrakes need adjusted if you ever drive with them on. Easy to do.
The WOF garage is on a hiding to nowhere these days as the NZTA are a Lynch mob and disputes tribunal will find the garage liable for anything they miss.
Most WOF inspectors are simply terrified of losing their WOF ticket and people buying cars on trademe then blackmailing the WOF guy over said problems with the car is commonplace
