Complaint #: 351
Poor customer service
Good evening

Firstly , I would like to provide the receipt numbers for my husbands' wedding ring for you to refer to

Initial purchase made 9 Feb 2019 , Receipt number 005310102709 , staff member # 18050 - Olivia C , and staff # 18166 -Hayden B, at the Upper Hutt shopping mall.
Lifetime plan dd 13 Feb 2019 receipt number 005310102784 staff member # 18166 - Hayden B , at the Upper Hutt Mall
Item number = P15504265 = Grey 8mm Patt Sapphire Tungsten.

we bought the ring in February , and we got married 25th May 2019.

On Sunday morning , 13th December 2020, Richard , my husband , turned his ring on his finger, and ..... it broke
14th December 2020 , we go into the Lower Hutt Mall.
Refer to receipt number : 001710114372 dated 14.12.2020 , time 15.46 , staff member # 18569 - Susan B

On approaching the staff member with the wedding ring , with our receipt and lifetime plan, showing her that it was broken , telling her that this would be the 2nd time it has happened , the staff member blurted out quite loudly , asking my husband what he was doing with his hands, was he fighting and was he punching walls.this did not go down well with us . She did apologise, saying she was trying to make a joke. Quite frankly , the apology didn't really wash.

Then, she said , that this would have to be dealt with by the manager who happened to be out at lunch. Asking us if we could go and look around the mall and come back later. I said perhaps she show us some other wedding bands that we could look at.
In the space of about 2 minutes , having walked down to where the wedding rings were, the manager appeared
we did not get her name , and she basically said to us , that it should not have been purchased as a wedding ring, it was more a novelty ring, and that we had got almost 2 years out of it.

Sales assistant talked my husband out of the ring that he really wanted , and by that time , we were both just over it all , the awkwardness of the situation , being made to feel belittled by our choice of the Tungsten as a wedding ring, , quite frankly , hubby just wanted his money back and get out of the shop.
We did settle on a ring , item number P15571304 , that we had to pay $110.90 on to get it resized , and pay for a 3 year plan.
We have to wait 12 days to get the replacement ring
Getting to agree on the figure of $110.90 was a chore ,staff was making it sound like we had to pay $559.90 ,on top of the broken ring .

highlight : being greeted with the comment of " what are you doing with your hands , fighting&punching walls"
2ndly:manager to make throw away comments of " it should not have been purchased as a wedding ring, it is rather a novelty ring " was taken as an outright insult.

What can you do to "sweeten" this experience without any further cost to us ?, as the customer service that has been provided does not warrant another cent to be paid.

Sounds like Michael Hill does that a lot. Here's a similar complaint from Lower Hutt:

They sound like used car sales people from back in the days. I hope they read your complaint and they resolve your issue to your liking.
