Complaint #: 50
Gopher Took My Money & Ran
My saga with gopher is way too complex. I posted the whole story on a blog but gopher managed to take it down. So I googled a bit more on them and found a whole bunch of complaints at various sites. But over time gopher has been taking them down somehow.

So now there's a petition at this site:
http://www.activism.com/en_NZ/petition/gopher-co-nz-took-my-money-ran/34217

Just in case gopher decides to shut that down too, here are some of the comments posted on that page:

I have written to fair go, the commerce commission my local M..P and the fraud department as well as visa... Steve from accounts is getting back to me today.

Gopher promised I would see big results ,but sadly all I saw was a big hole in my bank account ,and no extra charters . Be aware .

They called me but I did not sign up - saw right through them pretty quickly. Fact is for all business folk is no directory can get you high on google - all it can do is divert traffic away from your natural listing. So my advice to all small business owners is if there muppets ring you, hang up.

I have spent more than $1300 with this company over the last year and a bit and every time they sold me something they would phone back a few days or week or so later trying to sell me more advertising with more promises. It got to the point where I felt that I was being scammed because every "great advertising offer" they had ALWAYS had an add-on package that cost more money.

I only ever heard from them when they wanted to try and get more money from me. They were VERY slack at getting back to me about when my Google ranking would be active. Basically after taking my money I would never from them about any follow ups. My monthly site statistics NEVER show traffic coming from Gopher.

In my last conversation with one of their sales guys (around Aug 2013), who was again trying to up-sell me more advertising, I was told if I wanted to see results I really needed to spend the money. I told him to piss off and stop calling me. Now a female from Gopher is trying to get hold of me.

I absolutely believe these guys are a scam. They may actually deliver some results but they are not results that are worth paying any money for. I would recommend avoiding them at all costs. The Yellow team are much better to deal with, more helpful, and offer more for less.

I will add any new comments below. People need to know about this. Unfortunately gopher is good at taking down comments made at other sites. Posting it here should preserve it.

My experience is very similar to the last commenter above, except they currently had $4,760.00 of my money :-( I have nothing AT ALL from this money, all the deadlines have passed.

Gopher have ripped me off as well. I started with a 6 month contract of a small package over 12 months ago that suited my small business budget. Within the first month of the contract they called me back and somehow managed to talk me into upgrading to a better package at a greater cost and started a new contract for 12 months.

Then a few months later, the same thing happened and upgraded again with a new 12 month contract. They tell me that upgrading will allow my add to get more clicks and I will most likely get my money returned by successful sales of my products.

By now I am now paying $1000 per month. A bit beyond my budget and I am not getting more than $1000 in return of sales, so it is draining my money!

They even tried to talk me into upgrading to an ultimate package that would cost me about $3500 per month, but they were guaranteeing 100% listing of my add and always at the top, etc...

I agreed to that offer after being talked into it, but I then cancelled within the 5 day termination period, even though they did there best to talk me into staying with the contract because they had already started working on it had had spent several hours of their time working on it. They even tried to offer me special discounts to keep the contract. After having had said "NO" over 10 times, they finally accepted.

I also question why I am paying $1000 per month when my report says only ~$600 worth of clicks was spent. That figure may vary per month, but I am paying Gopher $1000 per month, so where is all the rest of my money going? Am I giving it to Gopher for free?

DO NOT LISTEN TO GOPHER!! THEY ARE CON ARTISTS AND RIP YOU OFF!!
